Disney CEO: Hackers claim to have upcoming film

Iger had mentioned the hack during a town hall meeting in New York City earlier today with employees of ABC according to the Hollywood Reporter. Disney apparently refuses to pay, and is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to Deadline.

He didn't name the movie, but one of the studio's biggest anticipated summer releases, ironically, is "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales", scheduled for release May 26th.

Later this year, Disney is releasing next instalment of Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Ragnarok, and next episode of Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The hackers have threatened to release the entire title in five minute snippets. and could follow through after Iger vowed Disney would not pay.

Disney may be dealing with pirates - and not the Johnny Depp variety.

However, a report from Deadline claims that the hackers stole the fifth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Korea detains another American over alleged hostile acts

Netflix recently had the same issue with a hacker released 10 episodes of Orange Is The New Black after their demands weren't met. Remember back in the day when movies would leak online and they would go to a pirate bay? It was not clear if the Disney incident was related to the ransomware attack.

The hackers first tried to pressure the post-production company, but eventually targeted Netflix with ransom demands.

A spokesman for Disney didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
