Mother fears woman accused of leak will be made an example

Reality Winner, the Bernie-supporting, Trump-hating social justice warrior who was charged with leaking classified documents to The Intercept, apparently wanted to be an Islamic terrorist, according to evidence seized from her home. She could also face a fine of up to $250,000.

The mother and stepfather of the NSA contractor who reportedly admitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation she leaked classified information from the Trump administration say their daughter is a "patriot".

Epps also said he was concerned that victor appeared to have a fascination with the Middle East and Islamic terrorism, Begnaud reports. "And she felt like she needed to give them what they were asking for at the time", Winner-Davis said.

The intelligence agency was contacted by the news outlet on May 30 regarding an upcoming story, saying it was in possession of what appeared to be a classified document.

That news outlet is widely believed to be The Intercept, which published a report Monday detailing an apparent NSA document that said Russian military intelligence attempted to hack a USA company that provides election software.

The Intercept said the NSA report was dated May 5 — the same date court records cited for the documents victor is accused of leaking.

It also suggests that attackers may also have been laying groundwork for future subversive activity. The attack sketched out in the NSA document appears designed specifically to cope with that sprawl.

Prosecutor Jennifer Solari says investigators seized a notebook from Winner's house in Augusta, Georgia, and in it, victor made references about traveling to the Middle East. "But she's now the poster child for every bad thing that happens, and the government is going to prosecute her as if she's the number one threat to national security, and she's not".

Prosecutors said a phone call to her sister expressed her confidence in how to play the court during her bond hearing.

"The government is not in any way suggesting the defendant has become a jihadist or that she is a Taliban sympathizer", Solari told the judge.

The indictment alleges that victor, a former Air Force linguist, leaked the confidential information in May 2017 while employed at private contractor Pluribus International.

A federal grand jury has indicted a woman accused of leaking classified documents to a news organization. But the Justice Department didn't announce her arrest until Monday - the same day The Intercept published a report on the document.

Victor is set to go before US Magistrate Judge Brian Epps for a detention hearing Thursday in Augusta, Nichols said.

Winner's family seemed less certain than her attorney.

Her mother, Billie Winner-Davis, the accused's mother said that her daughter was a linguist with the Air Force in Maryland and speaks Pashto, Farsi and Dari-languages widely spoken in Iran and Afghanistan, according to CNN.

"She served her nation with distinguished honor. There's around six people, and then they narrow it down to this Reality Winner". The prosecutor said victor also had photos of the leaked document on her phone.

Victor also used #NotMyPresident in her posts.

Winner's Attorney, Titus Thomas Nichols, said in an interview that his client was a "good person" and will remain in federal custody until Thursday.
