Qatar rejects intervention in foreign policy: FM

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani added that diplomacy is still Doha's preferred option and there would never be a military solution to the problem.

A top Emirati diplomat said Wednesday "there's nothing to negotiate" with Qatar over a growing diplomatic dispute about the energy-rich nation's alleged funding of terror groups, signaling Arab countries trying to isolate it won't back down. The response was to accusations from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Egypt of supporting terrorist groups and having relations with Iran.

"We are an independent country with sovereignty", he told AFP, rejecting tutelage from other states.

Speaking in a rare interview, Emirati Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash told The Associated Press that Qatar has "chosen to ride the tiger of extremism and terrorism" and now needed to pay the price.

"At the end, there won " t be any escalating measures in response from Qatar because it believes such disputes among fraternal countries should be solved at a dialogue table", the foreign minister said, adding that there must be a disclosure session to discuss points of view, identify the areas of difference and work to limit them while respecting each side's opinions. These include cutting all links with Iran, the pan-Arab Muslim Brotherhood network and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. "They are hosted here. for peace talks".

Sheikh Mohammed said Qatar could nonetheless survive "forever", adding that it respected worldwide agreements and would continue supplying liquefied natural gas to the UAE.

The UAE's Gargash said the measures against Doha were now limited to diplomatic and economic ties, but warned that no one could project the "dynamic of a crisis".

Saudi Arabia has also sealed off Qatar's only land border, a crucial lifeline for food imports.

Al Jazeera's Hashem Ahelbarra, reporting from Doha, said Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman was defiant and stressed that Qatar could live under embargo forever.
