Canadiens send defenceman Nathan Beaulieu to Sabres for third-round pick

The Montreal Canadiens have traded defenceman Nathan Beaulieu to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a third-round pick in 2017.

"The 6'2" 205 lb Strathroy, Ontario native was selected by Montreal with the 17th overall pick in the 2011 draft.

As the two got to know each other more , Mika's love for sports - especially Detroit teams - became pretty obvious. Matt Mika's family confirmed Wednesday afternoon he was shot multiple times in the attack in Alexandria, Virginia.

Beaulieu tallied 28 points across four goals and 24 assists this past season, which ranked fourth among Montreal defensemen. "After just a handful of games, [then head coach] Michel Therrien decided he had seen enough". Though he started the campaign playing on the first pairing with Shea Weber, he found himself a healthy scratch by the time the club was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the New York Rangers. Montreal lost that game 3-1 at Madison Square Gardens and lost the series 4-2.

He's definitely going to be playing top four minutes with Buffalo and since they're likely going to lose a defenseman like Dmitry Kulikov in the expansion draft, Beaulieu has been a key acquisition.

Beaulieu immediately improves the Sabres' blue line under new coach Phil Housley, a Hall of Fame defenseman.
