Milwaukee County sheriff not joining DHS, after all

Clarke is notorious in Milwaukee for the disproportionate size of his media presence as compared to the actual size of his role in the city's sheriff's department.

Clarke notified Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly on Friday of his decision, Craig Peterson, an adviser to Clarke, said in a statement, according to the Washington Post and other newspapers.

Clarke announced in a radio interview in May that he was taking the job.

DHS officials never officially announced he'd been offered a position.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Department of Homeland Security says Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is no longer a candidate for a position in the agency. He added he is still reviewing his options, both inside and outside government.

Sheriff Clarke, who gained national attention when he spoke at the Republican National Convention last July, is a vocal proponent of gun rights and is a member of the National Rifle Association.

John Avildsen, who won Oscar for 'Rocky', dies of cancer
In The Karate Kid (1984), The Karate Kid Part II and The Karate Kid Part III , Avildsen directed Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. He started with a long apprenticeship as assistant director, then moved up to production manager, cinematographer and editor.

Clarke has also been criticized for his track record as Milwaukee County Sheriff. "Sheriff Clarke told Secretary Kelly he is very appreciative of the tremendous opportunity the secretary was offering, and expressed his support for the secretary and the agency". According to The Washington Post, he has been accused of plagiarism for his master's thesis at the Naval Postgraduate School, and he has drawn scrutiny for conditions in his jails that left one mentally ill inmate dead who prosecutors say was deprived of water as punishment.
