Texas mother left kids in hot auto as punishment: United States authorities

Randolph found her two children, a 16-month-old boy named Cavanaugh Ramirez and 2-year-old Juliet Ramirez, playing inside the auto.

Randolph was charged Friday with two counts of first-degree injury to a child causing serious bodily injury in Weathorford, Texas. The incident happened in late May. Their mother, Cynthia Marie Randolph, 24, originally told authorities the two children disappeared while she was performing household duties and she found them locked in the auto.

But on Friday, the story changed. Apparently, after returning from a trip in the vehicle, Juliet refused to get out, prompting the mother to shut the 2-year-old and her younger brother in the hot auto alone as a form of "punishment".

Later that day, after Randolph smoked cannabis and slept for two or three hours, she called the police after she discovered her children in the auto.

According to records, Randolph is now held at the Parker County Jail on a bond of $200,000.

She called paramedics and broke her vehicle window to make it look like an accident. She found them in the auto, where they had locked themselves inside.

Documents released Friday revealed the Parker County Sheriff's Department used Randolph's alleged shifting statements about how the children died as probable cause to charge her, NBC News reports.

Emergency responders pronounced the two children dead at about 4 p.m. that afternoon. Randolph said the door was locked so she broke a window to gain entry.

She then told officers she had to break a window to rescue the kids, then called 911, authorities said.

Police say a woman in Texas left her two young children in a hot auto as punishment.

Sheriff Larry Fowler said in May that any incidents involving any child are hard, but this call was "especially heartbreaking" with the unfortunate deaths of the two children, CBS DFW reports. Her bond is set at $100,000, according to Parker County Jail records.
