Cyber attack hits oil giant and banks in Russian Federation and Ukraine

A spokesperson for global crime agency Europol said: "Europol is aware of multiple reports in the media regarding a developing Ransomware attack, we are liaising with cyber units in the member states and key industry partners to establish the full nature of this attack at this time". The United States was investigating the attack and determined to hold those responsible accountable, it said.

TNP understands that staff members of TNT received a message on Tuesday night informing them of the attack, and they were told not to turn on their computers and to unplug them. An initial investigation by cyber-security analysts initially identified the program used as one called Petya, which had been advertised for sale on Russian hacking forums.

Attacks were first reported early Tuesday morning in Ukraine, where banks, an airport and the metro system, among other systems, were affected.

Russia's Rosneft oil company also reported falling victim to hacking and said it had narrowly avoided major damage, as did Danish shipping giant AP Moller-Maersk.

Kmart to close midstate store
Headquartered in Toronto, Sears Canada operates 225 stores in all, including 95 department stores and 65 Sears Hometown stores. Another 45.3% of the stock is owned by an investment fund controlled by Sears Holdings Chairman Edward Lampert.

Microsoft said in a security update that the attack has hit 64 countries so far, including Russia, Brazil, and the US.

WPP, the world's largest advertising agency, said it was also infected. A Wellsville, Ohio, woman at one of its hospitals to have her gallbladder removed said she noticed computer monitors off and nurses scurrying around with stacks of paperwork.

Once the malware has infected a system, it waits 10 to 60 seconds before rebooting and displaying a page informing the user that their files have been encrypted and can be unlocked by paying $300 in Bitcoin.

"Perhaps you are busy looking for a way to recover your files, but don't waste your time".

Following last month's attack, governments, security firms and industrial groups aggressively advised businesses and consumers to make sure all their computers were updated with Microsoft patches to defend against the threat.

Proton was privatized in 2012 but its new owner, conglomerate DRB-HICOM Berhad, was unable to revive the carmaker. Last year, Proton sold only 72,000 units, giving it barely 12 percent share of the domestic market, he said.

Media buying agency WPP PLC said on Wednesday that a number of its companies, though not all, were hit by the "Petya" ransomware attack on Tuesday. Ther are so many attackers.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is also monitoring the cyberattacks.

MalwareTech, the British security researcher who halted the spread of WannaCry, added that it was likely MeDoc was hacked, then its software used to spread the malware to any PC using its accounting service.

Researchers say the ransomware virus is a worm that infects networks by moving from computer to computer. However, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman assures the public that "vital systems" were not penetrated by the debilitating ransomware, which exploits flaws in network security.

Grizzly Bears Are Off The Endangered Species List
