Israeli police shoot Al-Aqsa Mosque imam after prayer

Israel then reopened the compound to Muslim worshippers on Sunday after imposing new security measures, including metal detectors and additional security cameras.

Tensions have soared since Friday.

During that period, Israeli forces have killed more than 254 Palestinians, majority said by Israel to be attackers while others were killed in clashes with Israeli forces.

Safadi said that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah the custodian of the holy Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem, will work with partners and friends to restore calm and resolve the crisis.
