Senate Judiciary Committee Subpoenas Manafort to Compel Testimony

The co-founder of the firm tied to the controversial opposition research dossier on President Trump has agreed to speak to the Senate Judiciary Committee behind closed doors, the top lawmakers on the panel said Tuesday.

The hearing is part of the panel's probe into Russian meddling and potential collusion with Trump campaign officials in the 2016 presidential election. In the statement, Kushner said he "did not collude with Russian Federation". It will also be a crucial opportunity for them to demonstrate a backbone and to stand up to President Trump and his claims that the Russian Federation investigation is a "hoax", "witch hunt", or "fake news". The former chairman of Trump's campaign also met in private with the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday morning.

As Kushner spoke with House intel committee members today, Manafort appeared before bipartisan staff of the Senate Intelligence Committee for a closed-door, transcribed interview.

Manafort had initially reached a deal with the committee to avoid public testimony, but chairman Sen. Congressional committees, as well as a Justice Department special counsel, are investigating whether Trump associates coordinated with Russian Federation in that effort and whether the president has sought to hamper the investigations. That meeting was held in Trump Tower in NY after the lawyer offered damaging information about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
